## An authentic opportunity where students use math to create art.

## This interdisciplinary unit increases student awareness of business, art, culture, technology and math. Students will use writing skills as they prepare a presentation of the information they have learned and script their podcast. As students communicate with their partners and create their audio recording they will participate in mathematical discourse. This unit involves 21st century skills of collaboration, creativity, authentic audience and problem solving.

## Common Core Math Standards

Identify the effect on the graph of replacing

f(x) byf(x) +k,kf(x),f(kx), andf(x+k) for specific values ofk(both positive and negative); find the value ofkgiven the graphs. Experiment with cases and illustrate an explanation of the effects on the graph using technologyUse geometric shapes, their measures, and their properties to describe objects (e.g., modeling a tree trunk or a human torso as a cylinder).*

Apply geometric methods to solve design problems (e.g., designing an object or structure to satisfy physical constraints or minimize cost; working with typographic grid systems based on ratios).*
